This seat has been occupied by CPM since the year 1996. Earlier Congress had won two consecutive seats here. In this seat, the CPI won the first time twice. BJP has never won this seat. Tripura has 60-member assembly, out of which 30 assembly seats come in Tripura East parliamentary area. In the last assembly elections held last year, the Bharatiya Janata Party has overthrown CPM in power for 25 years. The BJP won 35 seats and its allies, the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT), 8 seats and CPM won 16 seats in this election. After this, the BJP together with the IPFT formed the government in the state.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Jitendra Chaudhary received 6 lakh 23 thousand 771 votes, while Congress candidate Deobaran got one lakh 39 thousand 413 votes. The total number of voters in this seat is 11 lakh 40 thousand 269.

MP's report card

Born June 27, 1958 in Bhuratali district of South Tripura, Jitendra Chaudhary has been elected MP for the first time from Tripura East Lok Sabha constituency. He completed his schooling from Tripura's capital Agartala. He married Manisha Devararman on 7th May 1985, from which he has two daughters.


60-year-old Jitendra Chaudhary attended 275 days of Parliament's proceedings for 331 days. During this he asked 306 questions and participated in 115 debates. During this period, he did not present a private member bill. He spent a total of 15 crores 52 lakhs in the development work of his constituency.
