Political Background

Since independence on the Banda Lok Sabha seat, 15 Lok Sabha elections have been held so far, in which the Congress has won four times. Apart from this, BJP has been able to win (3 times), CPI (2 times), BSP (2 times), SP (2 times), Lok Dal (once) and Jana Sangh (once).

Lok Sabha elections for the first time in Banda Lok Sabha constituency were held in 1957 and Raja Dinesh Singh was elected MP. Subsequently, Savitri Corporation became a Member of Parliament in the elections held in 1962. In Banda, the Congress won the victorious chariot in 1967 and got elected from the Left Front party's Jageshwar parliamentary constituency. After this, the Jana Sangh managed to open its account in the elections held in 1971.

In 1977 it was reversed and Ambika Prasad of Lok Dal won. However, in the 1980 elections, the Congress once again returned and Ramnath Dube became the MP. After this, Congress won in 1984, but since then Congress has not been able to return. In 1989, CPI managed to win the second time.

According to 2011 census on Banda Lok Sabha seat, the total population is 23,55,901. It has 85.08 percent rural and 14.92 percent urban population. The Scheduled Castes population is 24.2 per cent in this constituency. Apart from this, Brahmins and Kurmi voters are in the deciding role. Interestingly, nearly 21 percent of the Muslim voters are.

Under Banda parliamentary seat, there are five assembly seats in which Baberu, Narayani, Banda, Chitrakoot and Manikpur assembly seats are included. Naraini assembly seat is reserved for Scheduled Castes. At present, the BJP occupy all the five seats.

Mandate of 2014

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, 53.59 percent voting was registered in the Banda parliamentary seat. In this constituency, BJP's Bhairon Prasad Mishra won the victory by defeating BSP's RK Singh Patel by one lakh 15 thousand 788 votes.

MP's report card


Bhairon Prasad Mishra, who won the 2014 election from Banda Lok Sabha seat, has been performing well in the Lok Sabha. During the proceedings of the House of 331 days of this Lok Sabha, he raised 546 questions in the House and participated in 2,038 debates. Interestingly, Bhairu Prasad also came with 21 personal bills. Not only that, he spent Rs 15.59 crore on development works out of 25 crore MP funds he got in five years.
