IPL-12: Sunrisers want to win the KKR fort tomorrow
Kolkata vs Hyderabad, IPL T20: Kolkata had to face defeat by
Sunrisers Hyderabad by 14 runs in the qualifiers-2 under the captaincy of
Dinesh Karthik last season.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
will compete against the IPL Season 12 on 4 August at the Eden Gardens ground
in Kolkata. Eden Gardens are not less than a Fortress fort for the Kolkata
Knight Riders team. For opposition teams, it is not easy to beat the Knight
Riders team on the field. Last year, KKR team captain Dinesh Karthik reached
the playoff and finished third in the tournament. Sunrisers Hyderabad were
defeated by Chennai Super Kings in the final, which was the runners-up of the
team last season.
Kolkata won its last title in the IPL under captaincy of
Gautam Gambhir in 2014. Since then, the team has made it to the playoff three
times in the last four years, but he has not won the title. Kolkata had to face
defeat by Sunrisers Hyderabad by 14 runs in the qualifiers -2 in the captaincy
of Dinesh Karthik last season. Captain and wicketkeeper batsman Karthik was the
highest scorer of the team with 498 runs in the previous season.
In the bowling team, experienced Sunil Narine, Kuldeep Yadav
and Piyush Chawla will once again want to strengthen the team together with
Kesi Cariappa. In the last season, Kolkata's fast bowling was a little weak.
However, chief coach Jacques Kallis believes that he has more options this
time. This season, the team will feel the shortage of Shivam Mavi and South
African fast bowler Enrique Nortge, who have been injured.
In the batting side, there are explosive batsmen like Chris
Lin, Robin Uthappa, Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik and Carlos Brathwaite. Team
assistant coach Simon Katich believes that he has the best batting order. On
the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a 8-wicket defeat in Chennai Super
Kings last season. Hyderabad, captained by Kane Williamson, has performed
brilliantly since winning the title in the captaincy of David Warner in 2016.
Williamson has scored 735 runs in 17 matches so far,
including eight half-centuries in the tournament. However, in this glorious
match, all eyes will be on Warner, who has returned after bearing the one-year
ban in ball tempering. Team mentor VVS Laxman believes that Warner is
completely fit and excited about the league.
Apart from Warner and Williamson, the team of Hyderabad will
be expected to do well with batsmen like Martin Guptill, Manish Pandey and
Yusuf Pathan. However, the team will miss the shortfall of opener Shikhar
Dhawan, who has now gone to the Delhi Capitals team. All-rounder Shakib Al
Hasan, Mohammad Nabi and Vijay Shankar are also ready to give the team strength
in all departments. The bowling responsibility will be on the shoulder of
bowlers like Rashid Khan, Billy Stanleyk, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Khalil Ahmed,
Siddharth Kaul and Basil Thampi.
