The spokesman said that this defense expenditure is to protect national sovereignty, security and regional integrity, and not to threaten any other country. Yasui said, "China will remain on the path of peaceful development and adopt a defense policy that will be of defensive nature."

China has been raising one point in its national defense budget since 2016, after two points increase in the defense budget for nearly five years. In 2016, its defense budget increased by 7.6 percent, followed by 7 percent in 2017 and 8.1 percent in 2018.


Zhang claimed, "Many big countries spend 2 percent of their GDP on defense, while China spent only 1.3 percent of GDP on defense in 2018."

China's defense budget of 2018 was about $ 175 billion, which was almost three times the defense budget of India. On the other hand, the US Congress approved a massive defense budget of $ 717 billion for the fiscal year 2019.



India's defense budget was 2.98 lakh crore last year, while this year it has increased by 6.87 per cent to 3.18 lakh crore. China has made major changes in its army in recent years, including the expansion of Navy and Air Force.
