4.76 crore farmers get second installment of rupees 2000
Will meet Between elections
The Central Government had sought the opinion of the
Election Commission for payment of second installment of Rs. 2000 to small and
marginal farmers under the Prime Minister Kisan Adhikar Nidhi. Which the
Election Commission has cleared. With this, the way for the payment of next
installment of Rs. 2000 to the 4.76 million farmers has become clear.
Prior to the Lok Sabha elections, the second installment of
2000 rupees will be available under Prime Minister Kisan Adhiman Nidhi Yojana,
which guarantees minimum income to 4.76 million small and marginal farmers of
the country. Prior to the election, the benefits of this scheme will be
received by those farmers who have been registered before the implementation of
the code of conduct on March 10. There are also 20 million such farmers who
will not be able to get the first installment, they will also get the first
installment by the end of this month. The government had sought the opinion of
the Election Commission in this regard, which got approval.
The Prime Minister Kisan Adhikar Nidhi told the newspaper,
The Economic Times that under the scheme, the first installment of 2.75 crore
farmers has reached. The first installment of 2000 rupees in the account of the
remaining 2 crore registered farmers will be available at the end of this
month. These are the farmers whose registration was done before the
implementation of the Model Code of Conduct.
After the completion of the first installment of small and
marginal farmers, the payment of the amount of the second installment will also
start on 1st April. The central government had fixed Rs 75,000 crore under the
Prime Minister Kisan Adhiman Nidhi Yojana in its budget, out of which Rs 20,000
crore was allocated till the end of March. The government has planned to give
Rs 6000 per farmer in three installments.
It is notable that before the implementation of code of
conduct, the central government has paid Rs 5500 crore to 2.75 crore farmers.
According to the figures, 65 per cent of the beneficiary farmers are from BJP-ruled
Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. These are the states which, along with
the implementation of the scheme, have shown commitment in registering their
farmers here. So on the other side of Punjab, except for Punjab, most activists
of the Congress-ruled states have not been active in this scheme.
According to the agriculture based population of 2015, the
largest number of small and marginal farmers is 1.02 crore in Uttar Pradesh.
After this, 33 lakh in Andhra Pradesh, 26 lakh in Gujarat, 17.7 lakh in Tamil
Nadu, 17.6 lakh in Telangana and 15.1 lakh small and marginal farmers in
Maharashtra. There are some states where such a scheme was already going on for
farmers like Odisha, West Bengal and Telangana.
On one hand, while BJP-ruled states have shown a lot of
enthusiasm about the Prime Minister's Kisan Mahan Nidhi Yojna, the attitude of
the Congress-ruled states remains uninspired. Now after the approval of the
Election Commission, the way for the payment of second installment of Rs.2000
in the account of registered farmers has now become clear. Clearly, between the
general elections, the ruling BJP could get its benefits.
